On Nov 27, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation secured a contract to build two new ro-pax ferries for New Zealand's Ferry Holdings.

Designed for Cook Strait operations, each vessel will measure 200 meters long and 28 meters wide, with the capacity to carry 1,530 passengers. The ships will include 2.4 kilometers of hybrid lanes and space for 40 railway cars. Using hybrid power systems, they can switch between diesel propulsion (compatibles with biofuels) and electric power, supported by rechargeable batteries that lower fuel use and reduce environmental impact.
GSI has over 20 years of experience in ro-pax construction, having delivered three such vessels this year alone. Known for their sleek design, elegant interiors, and top-notch vibration control, GSI-built ro-pax ferries now operate routes across the Bohai Bay, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, and English Channel.
These vessels are becoming floating ambassadors of Chinese shipbuilding excellence on global waters.
