The bridge's main arch draws inspiration from the curved shape of the Tanka people's traditional boat dwellings, with arch ribs echoing the contours of the surrounding landscape. Mangrove forests inspired its truss, while its striking red hue and integrated LED lighting are a landmark spectacle in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
During its construction, innovative key technologies for a three-main-truss steel arch bridge were developed, saving approximately 70 million yuan ($9.89 million) in costs and shortening the project timeline by 40 percent. These advanced achievements, such as the 10,000-metric-ton triple-friction pendulum anti-falling bearing and an intelligent bridge inspection system, have now been widely adopted in other projects. The bridge has also received over 10 prestigious awards, including the National Survey and Design First Prize and the China Steel Structure Gold Award, as well as more than 60 domestic and international patents.
As a vital transportation link in the Greater Bay Area, the Pearl Bay Bridge not only showcases architectural artistry but also drives regional development through technical innovation, standing as a defining symbol of Nansha's modern coastal cityscape.
