On Sept 8, Guangzhou's Nansha district was recognized as a global natural city, further enhancing its reputation in ecological livability. This honor follows its previous awards, including the UN's "Global Most Livable Urban Area" gold medal in 2011 and the title of "China's Happiest City" in 2019.
This platform, supported by leading international organizations like ICLEI and IUCN, indicates that Nansha's efforts in ecological conservation and sustainable development adhere to globally acknowledged standards.

Utilizing its 803 square kilometers of diverse mountain, sea, field, and urban landscapes, Nansha has continuously advanced green development alongside ecological restoration and value transformation. For instance, the Jiaomen River wetland restoration was recognized as a national typical case of marine ecological conservation, and Nansha achieved China's first ecological shoreline restoration indicators.
Currently, Nansha has a built-up area with a green space rate of 38.74 percent, and a per capita park green space of 22.75 square meters, establishing it as an important ecological barrier in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Moreover, Nansha has converted ecological resources into concrete livable experiences through projects like the 20-kilometer Lover's Road and the Greater Bay Area Cultural and Sports Center. Efforts such as the international cruise home port and sailing events enhance the integration of marine culture and tourism, positioning Nansha as a leading example of a modern coastal city.
These practices offer the Nansha experience of urban and oceanic harmony, offering important lessons for estuary cities worldwide.
