Nansha, located at the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and along the coast of the South China Sea, is ideally located to develop its marine economy.

In recent years, Nansha has achieved remarkable results in marine scientific and technological innovation. The Mengxiang, China's first domestically designed and built deep-ocean drilling vessel, has been completed and commissioned, with a maximum drilling depth of 11,000 meters, and will undertake oceanographic drilling and exploration missions. Construction on the cold-seep research facility has commenced, aiding in the understanding of cold-seep ecosystems and addressing challenges in the green development of combustible ice.

Various marine scientific and technological innovation forces have converged in Nansha, with institutions such as the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) establishing a presence. Nansha has also built China's first ocean drilling core repository and the country's first dedicated deep-sea scientific research dock.

As a pivotal hub for combustible ice exploitation, Nansha has established relevant national engineering research centers and tackled multiple key technologies. The innovation chain and industrial chain of marine technology are accelerating their integration in Nansha, with domestically produced deep-sea robots achieving commercial export.

Today, Nansha is leveraging its platforms to foster cooperation and expedite the commercial development of deep-sea resources. With a long-term vision and steady determination, it is advancing towards its goal of becoming a global hub for marine scientific and technological innovation.
