Nansha Ferry Terminal launches departure tax refund services

Updated: 2025-07-16nansha.guangdong.chinadaily.com.cn

Recently, the departure tax refund business at the Nansha Ferry Terminal has experienced an unusual surge in activity, making it exceptionally busy.

In May, tax refunds at the port surged, with a 228 percent year-on-year increase in volume and a 218 percent rise in refund amounts, along with a 62 percent month-on-month growth.

To improve the tax refund experience, the Nansha Ferry Terminal has introduced several user-friendly measures. These include a "one-stop" tax refund counter, a multilingual hotline, and a "one receipt, one package" system, which together cut down clearance times.

The departure tax refund policy is available to foreigners and residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who haven't stayed for over 183 days. As long as they purchase, and do not use, personal items that qualify for a refund (excluding items with special regulations) at tax refund shops, they can apply for a refund.

Foreign travelers who spend at least 200 yuan ($27.9) at the same store on the same day are eligible to apply for a refund, as long as their departure occurs within 90 days of the purchase date.

In December 2024, the country eased and improved its transit visa-free policy, including the Nansha Ferry Terminal as one of the eligible ports. More than 800 foreign nationals have entered through this port.

Nansha enables both international visitors and residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to enjoy tax-free shopping experiences.
