Hong Kong's automobile market relies entirely on imports, with an annual import volume of around 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles, of which new energy vehicles account for 30 to 40 percent. In 2024, more than 12,000 new energy vehicles were exported to the Hong Kong region through Nansha Port, nearly doubling the previous year's total, and accounting for about half of the mainland's Hong Kong vehicle exports.

Guangzhou and Hong Kong customs have also collaborated to optimize processes, with active cooperation from the Guangzhou municipal commerce bureau, the Nansha district government, and others.

Under the new model, exported mainland vehicles can undergo customs clearance at Nansha Port and be temporarily stored until approval is received from the Hong Kong side, reducing the time required for vehicle registration and reducing Hong Kong storage costs by approximately 70 percent.

Guangzhou's automobile export performance has also been remarkable, with over 150,000 vehicles exported in 2024 and showing significant growth in the first five months of this year as well.
