A new development has emerged in Guangzhou's downtown duty-free shop project, with four State-owned enterprises announcing a joint operation.
The duty-free shop in the city sells duty-free goods such as liquor and food.
The Nansha International Cruise Terminal will establish a pickup point in the port's outbound isolation area, allowing consumers to "shop in-store and pick up at the port". This initiative stems from the issuance of the August 2024 Notice on Improving Policies for Downtown Duty-Free Shops, aimed at stimulating consumer activity and expanding domestic demand.
The notice specifies the establishment of a downtown duty-free shop in eight cities including Guangzhou. With the growth in inbound and outbound travelers and operational enhancements, downtown duty-free shops are poised to play a significant role in promoting consumption.
Additionally, the National Optimization of Departure Tax Refund Policy and Expansion of Inbound Consumption Work Promotion Conference emphasized the importance of developing departure tax refunds to boost consumption, address external shocks, and expand openness.
It urged all regions to accelerate relevant efforts, increase the coverage of tax refund shops, enhance the attractiveness of tax refund goods, drive the implementation of departure tax refund policies, and contribute to economic recovery and improvement.
