The "Notice on the Evaluation and Identification of Ancient Tree Parks in Guangzhou in 2024" was recently issued, revealing that Shipai Park in Dongchong Town passed the evaluation and identification process, while Nansha's ancient tree park has welcomed a new addition.
Shipai Park is home to a 129-year-old tree – the Ficus macrocarpa – which is known for its beautiful shape and massive canopy, standing 10 meters tall with an east-west canopy width of 15 meters. In recent years, the tree has seen improved growth conditions after its trunk was reinforced, its tree pit was expanded, and its nutrient substrate was changed.
During the renovation process, Shipai Park incorporated a design concept featuring high space utilization into the natural landscape, with the Ficus microcarpa at the center and modern benches surrounding it. It is a place of relaxation, science education, and cultural exchange.
Next, Dongchong town will focus on enhancing the ecological science education spots in Shipai Park and the publicity and education capabilities of the ancient tree park by adding botanical science education plaques and organizing a variety of science education volunteer activities.
Furthermore, Shipai Park has a paved platform spanning approximately 4,200 square meters, with 220 meters of paved pathways. It has also added seating, streetlights, landscape corridors, and health education bulletin boards, giving the area a unique natural charm and cultural atmosphere.
