The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival opens in Guangzhou on Jan 22. Celebrating both the Spring Festival and Zigong Lantern Festival, two intangible cultural heritage items, while infusing international cultural elements from the Bay Area, it promises a grand spectacle of light and shadow.

Featuring eight sets of super-sized lanterns, 37 sets of large lanterns, and 173 sets of medium and small lanterns, the festival offers a diverse range of viewing options for visitors of all ages.

Crafted by intangible cultural heritage artisans, the festival strives to present the highest level of Zigong lantern craftsmanship. Thanks to the efforts of experienced lantern art craftsmen and designers, traditional culture is seamlessly blended with modern aesthetics, transforming each set of lanterns into a work of art. Here, visitors can experience the ingenuity of the artists and appreciate the infinite charm of lantern art.

The festival has meticulously designed nine performance stages and distinctive performances, featuring professional actors, singers, dancers, intangible cultural heritage artists, and internet celebrities. It encompasses traditional folk activities such as Cantonese opera, martial arts and puppet shows, as well as innovative performances like drone shows. This event promises a cultural extravaganza that combines tradition with modernity, classical with contemporary, for the enjoyment of all.
