Visit Nansha museum with national top sci-tech award winner

Qian Qihu, a recipient of the National Highest Science and Technology Award and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, visited the Tunnel Museum in Nansha district for research and exploration on Nov 10.

He highly praised the rich content and educational nature of the Tunnel Museum, considering it an excellent science education base and a place for patriotic education.

Since its public trial operation on July 27, the Tunnel Museum has welcomed 197,200 visitors as of Nov 12.

Qian stated that Nansha is set to benefit the development of China Railway Tunnel Group, which has undertaken significant underground engineering projects in countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative, showcasing the strength of China's underground engineering technology.

China's shield tunneling technology has gone global, constructing numerous underground and tunnel engineering projects in countries along the Belt and Road initiative.

He emphasized that future tunnel engineering technology must comprehensively integrate traditional methods with information technology, digitization, and intelligent technologies, especially by incorporating artificial intelligence to drive technological advancements.

Qian called for promoting the value of tunnels and underground engineering, hoping that young scientific talents would demonstrate more technical prowess in this field.

As an expert in protective engineering, Qian has contributed outstandingly to developing protective engineering in China.
