On Oct 29, Nansha district highlighted its agricultural innovations at the National Quality Agricultural Development Conference in Shanxi province, showcasing the "Nansha blue crab".
Nansha blue crab thrives in the brackish waters of the Pearl River Estuary, known for its tender meat and unique flavor. Covering 20,000 mu (1,333.33 hectares), the crab farms produced nearly 4,000 metric tons valued at 1.5 billion yuan ($210.66 million) in 2023, contributing approximately 25 percent of Nansha's total fisheries revenue.
With advanced, eco-friendly farming practices, Nansha has established a national demonstration zone for healthy aquaculture, producing over 10 million high-quality crab seedlings annually. Nansha has also introduced 24-hour water quality testing and innovative monitoring to ensure product safety.
In addition to quality control, Nansha has enhanced its brand management, releasing standards for Nansha blue crab and combating counterfeit products. By expanding sales channels including attending multiple exhibitions and exclusive stores in major cities, the brand has gained national recognition, with sales soaring.
