Nansha lotus roots awarded as national protected product

Newly cultivated lotus roots have become the first national geographical indication-protected product in Nansha district, injecting fresh vitality into agricultural industry development and rural vitalization.

The Guangzhou Nansha Science and Technology Association, in collaboration with the Guangzhou Agricultural Science Research Institute and Guangdong Jin'an Agriculture Company, has jointly established the newly cultivated lotus roots technology center to safeguard and elevate the brand of new lotus roots.

The center has established a new lotus root variety selection trial area, purification, and rejuvenation area, and demonstration promotion area in Nansha, all aimed at enhancing the protection and promotion of new lotus root brands. The Technology Center is boosting the quality and yield of new lotus roots by introducing high-quality genetic resources and conducting purification and vitalization work.

Furthermore, the center is researching rapid propagation techniques for new lotus root seedlings, providing data support for the widespread adoption of efficient cultivation techniques for new lotus roots. Through training programs and technical guidance, local farmers are equipped with the knowledge of high-yield, high-quality cultivation management techniques for new lotus roots.

Establishing a new lotus root processing plant has enabled premium products to be exported to regions like Europe, America, and Southeast Asia, garnering favor among a broad consumer base.
