Lush melon fields in Xinsha village satisfy local demand

On May 16, in a lush green field in Xinsha village, Dagang town, watermelon vines sprawl across the ground, with their plump fruit nestled among the leaves.

The melon farmers are busy harvesting the freshly ripened Xinsha watermelons. Among these, the "sweet melon with yellow flesh" stands out with its yellow-colored flesh and sweeter taste.

A local farmer mentioned that although this year's melon production has slightly decreased, the quality remains high, and prices are stable. Apart from the "sweet melon with yellow flesh" priced at 5 yuan ($0.69) per jin (0.5 kilogram), the other varieties are priced at 3 yuan per jin.

Covering an area of over 70 mu (4.67 hectares), the melon fields grow Sanshui Baby melon, Qilin melon, and the "sweet melon with yellow flesh", offering not only wholesale distribution but also retail sales and the opportunity for visitors to pick melons in the fields.

The planting is divided into two batches this year, with an expected sustainable harvest until the end of June, meeting the summer melon-eating needs of local residents.
