In Dongchong town's Xiqiao village, Nansha district, chieh quass from the greenhouses have been gradually hitting the market since mid-February. Renowned for its distinctive chieh quas cultivation, Xiqiao village is also recognized as one of the characteristic villages by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Since the end of 2023, Xiqiao village has employed greenhouse facilities for chieh quas cultivation for the first time, collaborating with a professional team from the Guangzhou Academy of Agriculture and Rural Sciences to achieve the goal of early market entry for winter chieh quass by over two months.

While Xiqiao village has a long history of chieh quass cultivation, in recent years, it has faced challenges due to widespread pest and disease issues, leading to a gradual decline in traditional cultivation methods. However, in a promising collaboration with the Guangzhou Academy of Agriculture and Rural Sciences, Xiqiao village has introduced new chieh quas varieties, breathing new life into chieh quas cultivation. Expert Qiao Yanchun from the academy has provided technical support for cultivation, including safe production techniques within the facilities and innovative varieties.

Local farmers are not only enhancing chieh quas yields within the greenhouses but also striving to improve their skills. This raises the prices of agricultural products and contributes to increased income for local farmers.
