Nansha Tianhou Palace recognized as filming site for architecture

The Nansha Tianhou Palace has been recognized as a filming site for its unique architecture by the municipal government of Guangzhou, local media outlets reported on Aug 28.

Situated on the southeastern foothills of Dajiao Mountain, the palace is located at the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, near the estuary of the Pearl River.

Its scenic area features many well-known attractions, with the most iconic being the eight wonders. These include the sunrise at Binhai Silver Beach, the colorful path, the Mazu statue, the Nansha People archaeological site and sunset at the Nanling Pagoda.

Nansha Tianhou Palace is also a scenic spot themed on the Mazu culture and it has become a center for Mazu cultural exchanges in the Greater Bay Area. Since 2009, every year around the lunar date of the 23rd day of the third month, the palace hosts the Guangzhou Nansha Mazu Cultural Tourism Festival.

In 2013, Nansha Mazu customs were included in the fifth batch of intangible cultural heritage items in Guangdong province. In 2015, Nansha Tianhou Palace was designated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction, and in 2021 it was awarded the title of Guangzhou-Taiwan exchange demonstration base.

With its rich cultural heritage and enchanting natural beauty, Nansha Tianhou Palace is expected to captivate filmmakers and tourists as it becomes a noteworthy filming location in Guangzhou for the year 2023.
