An event allowing visitors to travel back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) was held in Guangzhou's Nansha district, local media outlets reported on July 25.
It created an immersive ancient market for people in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to experience the prosperity of this ancient period.
Various activities such as live performances, ancient-style parades, fairs and treasure hunting activities were arranged during the event. A variety of antique stalls were also set up to enhance the experience, such as ones for traditional delicacies and ones for experiencing intangible cultural heritage items.
Visitors were able to try sugar painting, paper cutting, agarwood threading, and cloisonne enameling at the event, allowing them to get a closer look at the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
"It was very impressive to see these intangible cultural heritage items in person. I have only seen them in textbooks and online before," said a student from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He expressed the hope that more young people from Hong Kong and Macao will come and get a more in-depth understanding of China's traditional culture.
The event will further deepen cultural understanding and the sense of belonging for people in Hong Kong and Macao. Of note, a similar event will be held again in Nansha on July 29.
