Nansha district issued a key initiative on May 29, to enable Hong Kong and Macao youths who rent designated apartments, to pay their monthly rent through their housing provident fund.
In 2022, Nansha piloted the monthly payment of rent through the housing provident fund, to promote the talent development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
This year, Nansha is moving to promote policies to facilitate the accommodation of Hong Kong and Macao youngsters and to further explore leveraging the housing provident fund.
To date, over 7,000 Hong Kong and Macao youths have opened housing provident fund accounts in Guangzhou, with more than 2,000 of them having records of withdrawals and usage. Of note, about 100 of them have used the fund to buy houses in Guangzhou.
Nansha's groundbreaking initiative in allowing Hong Kong and Macao young people to pay rent through the housing provident fund is expected to provide greater convenience for them in living and working in the district.
