The Wanqingsha-Xingzhong section of the Nansha-Zhuhai Intercity Railway started construction on March 30, and is scheduled to be completed and opened to the public in December 2027.
It is the first railway that is will connect the intercity railways in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with Guangzhou's metro networks.
The railway will start from Nansha's Wanqingsha Station and end at Zhongshan's Xingzhong Station. It will feature a total length of 47.6 kilometers long, including 19.1 km in Guangzhou and 28.5 km in Zhongshan, with a designated speed of 160 km per hour.
Upon completion, it will only take 45 minutes to travel from Zhongshan's Qijiang New City to Guangzhou's Zhujiang New City, further improving the rail transit network on the west bank of the Pearl River.
Additionally, it will connect with key transport lines such as Guangzhou Metro Line 18, thus achieving rapid connection with major transportation hubs such as Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou Station and Zhongshan Station, to create a north-south corridor for passenger flow in the Greater Bay Area.
