The OOCL SPAIN (Oriental Spain), known as the "castle on the sea" and the "king of container ships", docked at the port of Nansha on March 24, with a maximum capacity of 24,188 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

This marked the maiden voyage of the world's largest container ship to Nansha Port Area, refreshing the historical record of mega-ship berthing in this Chinese port.

The Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port ranks first in terms of container-handling capacity for a single port area in South China. At present, 20 large container berths, each with handling capacity of over 100,000 metric tons, have been built in the area. Last year, its container throughput exceeded 18 million TEUs.
