Institute for advanced marine research opens in Nansha

The Institute for Advanced Marine Research, of China University of Geosciences (CUG), was inaugurated in Nansha district, Guangzhou on March 18. Eight research teams will join the institute to help build Nansha into a southern center for marine science and innovation.

CUG(Wuhan) is a key national university that operates directly under the Ministry of Education. Marine science is one of the university's strengths and was awarded a B+ in the latest round of national discipline assessments.

The establishment of the institute is expected to raise the level of innovative research in marine science, and promote new breakthroughs in original innovation and key technologies in the marine field. It will also help Nansha further enhance its scientific research strength in the marine field.

Nansha is currently committed to building Nansha Science City at a high level with a focus on marine science. It has continued to gather high-end marine science and innovation resources to drive the development of emerging marine industries, such as new marine energy, marine electronic information technology, and marine biomedicine.
