Guangzhou COVID-19 Update for August 17

On August 17, Guangzhou reported 1 local asymptomatic COVID-19 case. The patient returned to Guangzhou from another province has already been placed under quarantine as a close contact of a previously diagnosed COVID-19 patient. Guangzhou also reported 2 imported cases and 1 imported asymptomatic case.

As of 24:00 August 17, 2022, a total of 6,647 positive cases have been reported in the city. These include 3,250 confirmed cases (2,260 imported cases and 990 local cases), among which, 89 cases are still being treated in hospital; and 3,397 asymptomatic cases (3,137 imported cases and 260 local cases), among which, 28 cases are still under medical observation.

Details of the asymptomatic COVID-19 case who returned from another province

The patient is a 51-year-old man who returned to Guangzhou on flight CZ3812 on August 14. He stayed at No. 11 Xinyue Street, Dongfang First Road, Tianhe District after returning to Guangzhou. He tested negative on August 15. In the evening of August 16, Guangzhou CDC was informed that the patient had been identified as a close contact of a previously diagnosed COVID-19 patient from another province. He was transferred to a centralized quarantine facility on the same evening. His PCR test result returned positive on August 17. The patient has already been transferred to Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital for quarantine and treatment.
