Nansha Automobile Port of Guangzhou Port welcomed the opening of its first ro-ro South America liner ship route on April 21. Cars produced by GAC Group, Dongfeng Motor, and other manufacturers will be exported to South America on ZIM's Ocean Power ship.

ZIM has become the fifth shipping company to open up foreign trade ro-ro routes in Guangzhou's Nansha district, elevating the foreign trade ro-ro business of Guangzhou Port to a new level.

In recent years, Nansha has become an important automobile production base in Guangzhou as the city accelerates the construction of an international automobile trade center. With GAC as the core, it has gathered more than 40 enterprises covering engines and key components, forming industrial clusters worth more than 100 billion yuan ($15 billion).

Guangzhou Port loaded and unloaded 407,000 commercial vehicles in the first quarter of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 5.7 percent, of which 37,000 were exported, a year-on-year increase of more than 70 percent. Guangzhou Port's ro-ro foreign trade export volume in April is expected to exceed 25,000 units for the first time.

At present, there are more than 10 major auto brands exported through Guangzhou Port, with the transportation route network covering the Middle East, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Japan, South Korea, as well as other countries and regions.

As a world-renowned shipping company, ZIM's business covers containers, automobiles, large cargo transportation, and warehousing logistics.

ZIM actively works hard in the global cross-border e-commerce shipping market and is accelerating the expansion of its ro-ro business. In 2021, its ro-ro transportation volume reached nearly 70,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 60.2 percent. In 2022, it plans to add 10 ro-ro transportation ships.

The Ocean Power departs from Nansha Automobile Port to South America, which means the "Guangzhou-Chile" direct liner ship route will be created, and the voyage time is strictly set within 30 days.

Guangzhou Port has built a ro-ro cooperation platform based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cooperating with Hong Kong and Macao, as well as opening to the world, to provide customers with comprehensive and integrated logistics services.
