Guangzhou COVID-19 update for April 18

From 15:00 on April 17 to 15:00 on April 18, 10 new COVID-19 cases were discovered in Guangzhou, including eight confirmed cases and two asymptomatic cases.

Among the 10 new cases, seven were found in quarantine sites and three were found in the partial lockdown zone of Baiyun district. From April 8 to April 18, Guangzhou has reported a total of 224 new cases of COVID-19. Currently, they are being treated at No 8 Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University. They are in stable condition and showing no severe symptoms

From 15:00 on April 15 to 15:00 on April 18, Guangzhou reported a total of 66 new COVID-19 cases.

From April 16 to April 18, the number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Guangzhou per day was 30, 26, and 10 respectively, showing a downward trend, with the risk of epidemic transmission continuing to decrease.

At present, a total of 17,676 close contacts have been managed and controlled in this round of epidemic prevention and control, while 1,728 people have been released from quarantine after investigation, 627 places have been released from management and control, 110 areas have been marked for management and control, as well as 10 places have been released from management and control after evaluation.

Residents should stay alert and practice good personal protection like wearing a mask correctly, washing their hands often, keeping rooms well-ventilated, and maintaining social distancing. They should also comply with safety protocols as required.

Please pay attention to COVID-19 prevention and control updates, answer the reminder calls for disease prevention and control, as well as check text messages in time. Inbound travelers to Guangzhou should report to the local community in advance and undergo nucleic acid testing as soon as possible after arriving in the city.

People showing symptoms, such as fever, nasal congestion, cough, and runny nose, should go to the nearest hospital for treatment and avoid buying medicine to treat themselves.

Data show that seniors are the most vulnerable group facing COVID-19 and are the most in need of priority protection. As of April 17, 2022, more than 80 percent of seniors aged 60 and above in Guangzhou have received COVID-19 vaccinations.

People who are eligible for vaccination but have not yet been vaccinated, especially seniors over 60 years old, should be vaccinated as soon as possible to improve immunity in order to protect their lives of themselves and their families.
