Construction on a joint venture project financed by French agricultural goods merchant Louis Dreyfus and two Guangzhou-based enterprises started on March 30, which demonstrates the French merchant firm's determination to expand cooperation in the Chinese market.

Located in the central area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Fuling Food Industrial Park will be constructed in three phases, with a total investment of 7 billion yuan ($1 billion).

The first phase of the project covers an area of more than 270 mu (18 hectares) and is expected to be completed in 2023. It will include a soybean feed protein production workshop with a daily processing capacity of 6,000 metric tons, a vegetable oil refining workshop with a daily output of 1,200 tons, and a packaging oil workshop with a daily output of 800 tons.

Louis Dreyfus's edible oil production and feed protein processing capabilities will be further enhanced after the completion of the first phase of the project. The industrial park will form a strategic industrial cluster with the Louis Dreyfus Dongguan Oilseed Processing Plant, while a warehouse for the imported grains distribution center will enhance the supply security of important agricultural products in the Greater Bay Area and surrounding areas, ensuring the efficient supply of high-quality protein products in South China.

"The construction of the park is another major milestone for Louis Dreyfus, which started its business in China nearly 50 years ago, and it is also an important measure for us to implement the company's strategy," said Chen Jiayuan, CEO of Louis Dreyfus North Asia.

"In general, Chinese consumers' demand for high-quality food is constantly expanding. We need to seize opportunities and empower our abilities in this area by finding trustworthy partners with complementary expertise to invest in new areas," he added.

After completion, the park will become an integrated industrial park covering diversified business fields, such as feed protein processing, high-tech ecological aquaculture, grain trade, and food innovation.
