Ocean Petroleum 229, the first marine barge in Asia and the third in the world, was recently upgraded and delivered in Nansha.

The ship was refitted by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company. After the modification, the ship's jacket transporting capacity increased from 30,000 metric tons to 38,500 tons.

After delivery, the ship will assist in the construction of Lufeng Oilfield, a key national offshore oil development project in the South China Sea.

Lufeng Oilfield is located more than 200 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong, with a water depth of about 284 meters. It is the first time for China to design, build, and install a fixed jacket platform in this deep water area.

When the Lufeng Oilfield group is put into full operation, its peak annual output of crude oil is projected to reach 1.85 million tons, contributing to the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Ocean Petroleum 229 transformation project started on July 17, 2021, and lasted 227 days, mainly completing the upgrading and replacement of the rocker arm, the modification of the load transfer system, the replacement of the main windlass, as well as other projects.
