Guangzhou Port Group made its debut at the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10 and introduced the Nansha cold chain logistics distribution center to the world during the event.

By utilizing the opportunities brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the Nansha comprehensive bonded zone, Guangzhou Port Group has invested 3.5 billion yuan ($574 million) to build a coastal comprehensive cold chain logistics base with a warehouse capacity of 460,000 metric tons.

The first phase of the Nansha international logistics center (south area) project has 227,000 tons of refrigeration houses and a cold container storage yard. It will be completed and put into trial operation by the end of this year to create a green port and logistics center.

The container throughput of Nansha Port increased by over 1 million boxes annually, which helped Guangzhou port rank fourth and fifth in the world in terms of cargo and container throughput, respectively. At present, the Nansha Port area is a hub port with the most maritime routes from South China to countries alongside the Belt and Road.

The Nansha Port railway connects the airport with the shared international freight center and will be completed and put into operation by the end of this year.

In addition, the Nansha home port for cold-chain logistics will be able to meet the consumption upgrading needs of citizens and serve the new development paradigm of dual circulation in which domestic and overseas markets reinforce each other with the domestic market as a mainstay.
