Updated: 2021-08-27

The development plan for the port and shipping logistics industry in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) in Guangzhou's Nansha district was released on Aug 19, putting forward a total of 42 specific tasks and five supporting measures.

The document covered nine aspects spanning promoting port infrastructure construction, developing shipping services, enhancing technological innovation, deepening regional coordinated cooperation as well as establishing a world-leading business environment.

It plans for the cargo throughput of Nansha port to reach 420 million metric tons in 2025 and its container throughput to reach 22 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) by 2025.

Nansha port is expected to operate 150 international cargo shipping routes and have 22 to 24 deep-water berths by 2025.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Nansha will speed up the cultivation of backbone marine shipping companies and global supply chain service providers with global purchasing and distributing capabilities. The district will also attract more logistics companies to settle down and develop new forms of logistics such as high-end warehouse logistics.

Nansha will adapt high standards in constructing an innovative demonstration zone for import trade promotion and devote great efforts in turning Nansha port into a home port for cold-chain logistics.
