The launching ceremony for a series of activities to take place from 2021 to 2022 by the Greater Bay Area Urban Designer Alliance was held in Guangzhou's Nansha district via a video conference with Hong Kong on Aug 7.

The Greater Bay Area Urban Designer Alliance was set up in June 2020 under Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design initiative. Its founding members also included Macao's CURB Center for Architecture and Urbanism, the Guangzhou Urban Planning Association, the Urban Planning Society of Shenzhen, and the Zhuhai Planning Exploration and Design Industry Association.

The association is expected to boost communication in urban design among cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and establish a mutual recognition of professional qualifications in urban design.

Members of the association take turns holding events every two years, and the events from 2021 to 2022 will be held in Guangzhou's Nansha district. In addition, the association has decided to relocate to Nansha district.

Nansha is now in an important stage of strategic development and has been devoting a lot of effort in upgrading its urban design standards to build an urban area that can meet the high-quality development requirements in the district.

The association's relocation to Nansha is expected to inject new vitality into Nansha's urban design.

The Second Greater Bay Area Urban Design Conference is scheduled to be held in Nansha in the autumn of 2022, inviting academicians, outstanding designers and scholars from both home and abroad.
