Debugging work on the fourth phase of Nansha Port's construction has been going smoothly, local media outlets reported on June 24.
Huang Binlin, the deputy general engineer of the fourth phase of Nansha Port, said that the project has utilized a lot of advanced technologies such as 5G communication, big data and artificial intelligence. The wharf will be fully automated and all the information systems used are the products of domestic independent research.
Intelligent guided vehicles (IGV) have been applied on the wharf to transport containers. They use intelligence algorithms to plan their routes automatically.
IGVs used at the wharf rely on the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, which is different from the original magnetic nail navigation. The navigation is accurate to within two to three centimeters.
The fully-automatic solution used on the wharf, being the first of its kind around the world, is expected to reduce manpower by nearly 70 percent.
Once operational, the fourth phase of Guangzhou Port will be able to handle more than 24 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) annually.
