The hydraulic structure of the No 1 berth at Nansha Port's wharf for seagoing vessels passed its inspection on June 11, marking a key moment in the construction of the project's fourth phase.

The fourth phase of Nansha Port will see the creation of the first fully automated wharf in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The completion of the hydraulic structure for the No 1 berth at the wharf for seagoing vessels has provided an important guarantee for the forthcoming testing of the project.

The fourth phase of Nansha Port, costing 6.97 billion yuan ($1.08 billion), is scheduled to build two 100,000 metric ton container berths, two 50,000 ton container berths, 12 supporting 2,000 ton berths for lighters, and four special berths for working ships.

It will have a total berth length of 2,644 meters with an annual handling capacity of 4.9 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).

Construction work has now finished on the structures of the two seagoing vessel wharfs and five lighter berths.
