A series of contracts were signed between the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangdong Province, South China Agricultural University (SCAU), Nansha Development Zone's administrative committee and Wens Group at a signing ceremony held in Guangzhou's Nansha district on May 26.
The parties agreed that a fisheries innovation research institute managed by SCAU, and the Guangdong livestock seed group will be set up in Nansha. The district's modern agriculture sector will be given a boost by applying a development model characterized by the formula "companies + universities", "technologies + capital" and "scientific research + commercial application".
SCAU's fisheries innovation research institute will include the formation of a national leading scientific innovation team with global influence, comprising experts such as academicians, Changjiang scholars and winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
It will also establish a public research and development platform for the fisheries industry, including the evaluation of fishery seeds resources, environment protection, disease control and prevention, as well as green breeding.
The district has been insisting on a development strategy featuring both scientific innovation and agriculture to achieve rural revitalization.
The seed and breeding industry town in Nansha district has now been listed as one of the four major industrial parks in Guangzhou's national modern agricultural industrial technology innovation center, and has attracted 39 institutions to settle there, including an academician work station led by Liu Shaojun, who is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an outstanding expert in fish genetic breeding.
