Guangzhou released its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for National Economic and Social Development and its "Vision 2035" on May 19, which included various plans for Nansha district.
The document stated that the district will be built into a demonstration zone for comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the main zone for global shipping, financing and technology innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a hub for advanced manufacturing, a high-level gateway for economic opening-up, and the sub-center of Guangzhou.
Major efforts will be put into the development of strategic emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, intelligent connected new energy vehicles and biomedicine.
Other industries such as the headquarters economy, financial services, shipping logistics, ship manufacturing and marine technology will be developed, as well as future industries such as hydrogen energy and natural gas hydrates.
Nansha district's downtown area will establish an urban service center featuring high-end services. The Qingsheng area will set up industrial bases for industries such as AI and automobile equipment. The northern area will strengthen integrated development with Shunde to become a major base for advanced manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area. The southern part of the district will be built into an international tourism center. The coastal area will form a large-scale comprehensive port and an international-standard shipping base.
Nansha Science City will be built to high standards and the Mingzhu Science Park of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will be set as its main bearing zone.
