Lively events such as the Mazu Cultural Tourism Festival and the Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port carnival will be held in Nansha district to entertain visitors during this year's May Day holiday.

The 13th Mazu Cultural Tourism Festival will take place at Nansha Tianhou Palace in Guangzhou's Nansha district from May 1 to 5, offering a cultural feast for guests.

This year's festival will last longer than previous ones.

The opening ceremony will start at 10 am on May 1 when performers in traditional costumes will perform dances that pay tribute to Mazu.

During the festival, Nansha Tianhou Palace will also open from 7 pm to 10 pm. Those who enter the palace in the evening will be able to enjoy a 20 percent discount off the normal price, with admission set at 16 yuan ($2.5).

Activities such as lighting shows, cultural temple fairs and a range of other events will be held in the evenings.

An exhibition hall exploring Mazu culture is now under construction and is scheduled to open to the public during the May Day holiday, letting visitors get a closer look at Mazu culture.

The carnival to be held at Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port will last from May 1 to 3 and will be held at an outdoor square, gathering together more than 50 stalls selling local delicacies and cultural creative products.

The carnival will be open from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm every day. People can find distinctive foods such as fruit tea, coffee and ice cream at the carnival, together with local agricultural products including pearl guava and papaya fruit.
