Nansha has been set as a demonstration zone for cultural tourism cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The designation is part of a specialized plan for the layout of public cultural facilities in Guangzhou from 2020 to 2035, which was released by the Guangzhou bureau of culture, radio and television on Dec 25, 2020.

The planning document is expected to improve the public cultural service quality in Guangzhou and balance cultural services between different areas, turning the city into a world famous city of culture.

Nansha, one of the 11 regional cultural centers in Guangzhou listed in the document, will construct a batch of large-scale cultural facilities in line with the development trends of Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area, such as the exhibition hall of the Greater Bay Area, the grand theater, the museum and the science and technology museum.

Nansha will also set up a five-tier system for local cultural centers, including the regional level, the district level, and the community level.

Three to five cultural centers at regional level will be built in major areas in the district according to the layout of regional transportation hubs. Cultural facilities at the district level will mainly center around two district centers, namely the Jiaomen River area and Zhujiang Street community.

The construction of the cultural facilities in the Jiaomen River area will be at the level of those of modern international urban areas, turning the area into a comprehensive service zone.

A cultural exchange center for China and Portuguese-speaking countries will be built in Nansha and the Pearl Bay area will be built as an important node for the economic and trade exchanges with countries and regions alongside the Belt and Road, showcasing the charm of BRI cultures.

Local tourism resources such as Puzhou Fort, Nansha Tianhou Palace and Nansha International Cruise Ship Home Port will be fully deployed in the in-depth integration of culture and tourism in Nansha.

Towns in Nansha including Lanhe town, Dongchong town, Dagang town and Hengli town are being encouraged to set up branches of cultural centers to service more residents.
