The main structure of the Nansha branch of Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center was "topped out" on Jan 10, after 308 days of construction. The milestone was reached 16 days earlier than scheduled.

The construction project has been jointly undertaken by China Railway Construction Group Co Ltd, China Railway 25th Bureau Group Co Ltd and China Railway Construction Group Southern Engineering Co Ltd, at a cost of 1.45 billion yuan ($223.62 million).

Located in the southern part of Shinan Road in Nansha district, the project covers a total area of 54,537 square meters and has a floorage of 155,923 sq m. It is expected that the hospital will be put into operation by the end of 2022.

Facilities such as an emergency department, an outpatient department, a medical technology department, an inpatient department and parking lots will be built in the hospital, which will offer a total of 780 patient beds and 1,327 parking spaces.

Public spaces which incorporate elements such as green vegetation and shading will be available in the hospital, allowing doctors and patients to visit and work in pleasant surroundings, optimizing the medical environment and easing anxiety among both patients and doctors.

The hospital is designed to become a specialized hospital which meets the standards for national 3A-grade women and children's hospitals, the highest of China's three-tier grading system for public hospitals, integrating various functions including medical services, health areas and education.

It will provide high-quality medical treatment and diagnosis services for women and children in Nansha district as well as in nearby areas.
