The construction of Shiziyang Channel, another channel crossing the Pearl River, is now under preparation, officials from Guangdong Communications Group announced on Oct 16.

Shiziyang Channel, along with other channels like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Nansha Bridge, Humen Bridge, and Huangpu Bridge, will contribute to the formation of a world-class transportation hub.

The Shiziyang Channel will include a double-decker bridge crossing the Pearl River spanning about 12.5 kilometers. It will be designed as a double-decker bridge, with a design scheme of eight two-way lanes. The construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2021 and finish in 2027.

Lying between Nansha Bridge and Humen Bridge, the project connects the Nansha area of the Guangdong (China) Pilot Free Trade Zone and Dongguan's Binhaiwan Bay Area. It has been set as a strategic channel in Guangzhou's efforts to become a national comprehensive transportation hub.

It is expected that the channel will become one of the landmarks in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and push forward the rapid development of the GBA.
