The cargo handling capacity of Guangzhou Port climbed by 5.6 percent year-on-year and the container throughput increased by 4.6 percent year-on-year in September, Guangzhou Port Group announced.

The grain handling capacity in the first three quarters of the year amounted to 4.51 million metric tons, increasing by 89.8 percent year-on-year, accomplishing the annual target one quarter ahead of schedule.

The port has handled a total of 163,000 commercial vehicles in September, which was 35,000 more than the same period last year, with a year-on-year growth of 27.3 percent and setting a historic new high. The number of foreign trade commercial vehicles handled at the port climbed by 26.9 percent year-on-year to 33,000, also setting a new record.

Covering an overall area of 4.99 square kilometers, Nansha Comprehensive Bonded Zone passed its acceptance check on Sept 16. It will be built into a high-quality carrier for logistics and clearance, bringing new opportunities for deepening coordinated cooperation between Guangzhou Port and shipping companies.

In addition, Guangzhou Port has launched a new clearance model in September, which makes full use of various kinds of port resources to realize the smooth matchmaking between feeder ports along inland rivers of the Pearl River and Nansha hub port, further improving the clearance efficiency at the port.
