Guangzhou Port Group has signed a letter of intent for cooperation on the integrated application and innovation of 5G on May 8 with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd, the Guangzhou branch of China Unicom, and Huawei to push forward the establishment of a 5G smart port system.

It is expected that Nansha Port will own the first fully automatic wharf in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area after its fourth phase construction and will turn it into a national demonstration project for 5G application.

The four parties will jointly set up a scientific research team to form a 5G application scheme for Nansha Port by measures like building a network compatible with both 4G and 5G, as well as setting out the application scenerios of 5G in the port.

The 5G system will cut down labor use at the port by about 60 percent. Advanced technologies, such as the Internet of Things, big data, and cloud computing, will also be made full use of at Nansha Port.

An international logistics center will also be built in Nansha Port, which will increase the current logistics and storage capacity by more than 400,000 metric tons. The center will also possess the largest port-surrounding refrigeration storage in China after construction.
