Nansha launches project plan focusing on new infrastructure

Nansha's plan for major construction projects in 2020 has been released, covering 203 projects with 731.2 billion yuan ($103.27 billion) in overall investment, of which 85.02 billion yuan will be invested this year, Nanfang Plus reported on April 1.

A total of 25.05 billion yuan will be invested in infrastructure construction, a year-on-year increase of 17.6 percent, accounting for 29.4 percent of this year’s investment, while 27.53 billion yuan is for modern industrial investment, up 46.6 percent, accounting for 32.4 percent.

The investment on projects for improving people's livelihoods will reach 24.8 billion yuan, accounting for 29.2 percent, while the remaining 7.64 billion yuan will be used in urban renovation.

A total of 54 new infrastructure projects, with an investment of 208 billion yuan, spanning 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial, and the Internet of Things were included in the plan, accounting for 28.4 percent of the total investment amount.

The plan has listed three projects in intercity high-speed rail and intercity rail transit costing 550 million yuan in 2020 including the integrated construction of turning Nansha Station into a comprehensive transportation hub.

Five projects on 5G and network applications will have an investment of 1.7 billion yuan this year, such as the fourth phase construction of Nansha Port of Guangzhou Port and construction for 5G base stations.

The fourth phase of Nansha Port, the first fully automatic port in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is expected to reach an annual container handling capability of more than 18 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) after construction.

The project will turn Nansha Port into an important channel for the Pan-Pearl River Delta economic hub to participate in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
