Nansha Port Rail in full swing

Updated: 2020-03-19

Nansha Port Railway, the first special freight line to serve the Nansha Free Trade Zone, is being constructed at full blast after work resumed on Feb 27.

Construction of the bridge across the Foshan-Kaiping Expressway at the Heshan section of the rail line was completed on March 10.

The line engineering construction for No 2 bid section of the railway was undertaken by China Railway 25th Bureau Group Co. Notably, the tasks for the Zhongshan section mainly consisted of prefabrication, transportation and erection of 2,848 T-beams for four bridges, as well as track laying.

“We grasped the prevention and control work on one hand and carried out safety management on the other hand, by means of pre-job education, safety publicity, and on-site check-ups,” said the project leader.

The bureau called for remote temperature monitoring and reported to the community every day. Only those with normal temperatures for more than 14 days and who went through a second quarantine for three days were allowed to return to work in staggered shifts.

In addition, project managers purchased 10,600 masks, 50 barrels of disinfectant, 100 bottles of alcohol and other anti-pandemic supplies to ensure that all personnel were equipped with the materials.

Affected by the outbreak, the original machinery and equipment operators were unable to arrive in time. The project department urgently contacted the equipment supplier to coordinate the deployment of operators.

Faced with lack of materials, the project department confirmed delivery with each material supplier and moved on to other business to keep processing intact.

In October last year, the bureau passed the national production license and was able to mass-produce T-beams. The person in charge of the project revealed that 166 T-beams have been prefabricated, and the remaining T-beams are planned to be completed this year.

The project is also responsible for laying the entire line of the Nansha Port Railway. “This year, while still promoting beam erection, we plan to start the laying operation in the first half of the year,” said the project leader.

They will set up Jiangmen and Zhongshan bases in two beam fields. In the railway laying bases, 157.57 km are to be laid on the main line, with 7.09 km on the station line.
