The conference, themed around “promoting phenomics research and decrypting human life information”, attracted nearly 300 representatives from governmental departments, universities, research institutes, hospitals and leading companies in the health industry.

They compared notes on the latest research results, development trends in the life sciences, and the plans to lead research on the human phenome.

With the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2001, the “post-genomic era” of life science research has begun. The phenome has become another “commanding height” in life science research, providing scientists with a key to explore and decipher life and health information.

It is expected to become the future of life science and a new source of motivation to lead the transformation of the international biopharmaceutical industry.

The district’s Party Secretary Cai Chaolin also interpreted the “phenome” of Nansha with four “codes” at the opening ceremony, adding that Nansha is full of potential, speed, innovation and quality to drive further development.

In three to five years, a “half-hour traffic circle” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will be formed, with Nansha as the center. The district has become a hub with one of the highest degrees of openness, the most policy platforms, and the greatest development potential in China.

It benchmarks international high-standard investment and trade rules, and has taken the lead in implementing the reform of commercial registration systems in the country. The registration business now can be completed within one day; even as quickly as 10 minutes.

The district emphasizes the orientation of the digital, marine and green economy, and has accelerated the construction of an innovative industrial system. It has also introduced a competitive high-end talent policy to create an international special talent zone.

In addition, Nansha won a United Nations “International Awards for Livable Communities” award and the “2019 China’s top 10 happiest city (district-level)” award as well.

It has made every effort to improve the quality of public services and to create better environment for residents, businesspeople and travelers by fostering an “AI plus smart city”.
