Updated: 2019-09-12

Shenzhen’s Party Secretary Wang Weizhong and Mayor Chen Rugui led a delegation to Guangzhou on Sep 5, when the two sides signed a framework agreement for strategic cooperation.

Wang expressed thanks to Guangzhou for its support for building Shenzhen into the pilot demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics.

“Guangzhou is of rich historical and cultural deposits and a high degree of internalization at the same time. It is a consistent example that Shenzhen can learn from in urban planning and management, and development of education and medical care,” said Wang.

He indicated that Guangzhou and Shenzhen are both core engines for development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. They are expected to seize opportunities to help each other as “the two important portals of Guangdong province”, and for the next step to construct a world-class city cluster together with Hong Kong and Macao.

Guangzhou’s Party Secretary Zhang Suofu pointed out that the cooperation with Shenzhen provides new momentum for the old city, given Shenzhen’s advances in innovation of science and technology, development of various industries and construction of the free trade zone.

The framework agreement spells out the guiding theory, the working content and mechanics for the cooperation. The two leading cities will focus on fostering Shenzhen into the pilot demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics, jointly constructing an international innovative center, traffic hub, and competitive modern industry system, and developing themselves into great living environments and tourism destinations.

In addition, they will deepen their previous collaboration in constructing the Nansha cooperation demonstration zone and the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation zone.

During the visit, the delegation investigated the Nansha Free Trade Zone as to construction planning and management, the intelligent transportation industry and scientific research infrastructure.
