Xiaohu Island, one of the five inhabited islands in Guangzhou, has issued a new planning report to make a new energy automobile manufacturing base.
The planners still reserve part of the area for the Shiziyang Tunnel Project, a pivotal cross-river channel connecting both sides of the Pearl River estuary and expected to go through Xiaohu Island in the near future.

The island is located in Guangzhou’s Nansha district and is famous for its chemical engineering agglomeration of recent years.
The planned scope covers 8.12 square kilometers with the land area up to 5.73 square kilometers, and includes seven administrative units: DG0201, DG0202, DG0203, DG0204, DG0205, DG0206, and DG0301.
The base’s urban built-up area was divided into three parts: 296 hectares (2.96 million square meters) for industrial land, 91 hectares for transportation and 120 hectares of green space.
The base will focus on vehicle assembly as well as the auto parts industry, and offer 10,000 employment positions, according to the plan.
The automobile nesting zone’s layout form is expected to be “two axes and two rings”. “Two axes” refers to the two highways that serve as the external linkage; the “two rings” refers to the two ring roads for easing internal traffic problems.
More public facilities including two transformer substations, six refuse collecting stations, and four pipe pumping stations will be set up.
Bidding on the Shiziyang Tunnel Project started in January of this year. The tunnel will be the seventh channel to link the east and west sides of the Pearl River and is regarded as an important passage in the core region of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
