Pony.ai, a leading Chinese automatic car company, officially announced a cooperative project on Aug 29 with Toyota Motor Corporation pertaining to self-driving technology and future forms of travel.
The two companies are trying to bring better products and services to people as they travel by car.
They share a common purpose of making future road trips safer, more enjoyable and more effective through technology.
Pony.ai rolled out a self-driving program “PonyPilot” in September of 2018, and succeeded in operating Robotaxi regularly on Guangzhou’s public urban roads.
Six months later, it met the qualification of offering Robotaxi service in California in the United States which paves the way for extending its global business.
Pony.ai, a pioneer in China, has received investment of $300 million from top-ranking investors including Sequoia Capital (China), IDG Capital, Legend Capital and Morningside Venture Capital, according to data valid up to April of 2019.
Toyota, the top international automobile manufacturer, sells over 10 million new cars per year and aims to become an insider of China’s market by collaborating with Chinese companies.
