A plan was recently issued in Guangzhou to guide the construction of its 1,033-kilometer green corridor, which is composed of many interconnected waterfront belts and is of great ecological, cultural and economic value.
The green corridor winds through all the eleven districts in the city. Nansha district’s share is 72.6 km.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022 after a one-year pilot phase and a three-year preliminary results phase, according to the plan.
The primary task is to control water pollution through curbing nonstandard drain outlets, urban grid management and reconstruction of the city’s villages.
The second task is the construction of waterfront space including a non-motorized traffic system made up of water-bank parks, sports parks and wetlands, public green spaces, an eco-agriculture base and a rural tourism base.
In addition, there is a need to build corresponding supporting service areas. Facilities like toilets, parking lots, viewing decks, and emergency shelters will be set up to guarantee public security and convenience.
This commonweal project mainly relies on government investmentwhich will fall into place by a classification rewarding policy.
Enterprises’ investment is welcomed and encouraged at the same time since there are preferential policies of planning, land use, taxes and finance in place.
Local government will take responsibility for maintenance and management of the green corridor by regular special examination.
The traffic police department will ensure that motor vehicles are banned from entering the construction area.
