Guangzhou Water Town Cultural Festival presents unique style of water township

On Nov 24, the 2018 Guangzhou Water Town Cultural Festival was held in Huangge Town, Nansha. The festival has been successfully held for more than ten years and has become an influential cultural brand in Guangzhou. It is an inheritor and promoter of traditional culture and demonstrates Nansha's unique watertown culture. It was hosted by the Publicity Department of CPC Nansha District Committee, the Huangge Town Party Committee and the town government.

The theme of the event was“Pearl of the Greater Bay Area, Tranquil and Beautiful Nansha”, which highlights Nansha's cultural, artistic and ornamental features, organically blends traditional and modern water elements, and displays the cultural elements of the Greater Bay Area, providing a good opportunity for people to enjoy the charm of the water town.

As a non-material cultural heritage of Guangdong province, Huangge Kylin (a kind of Chinese traditional mythical creature) Dance has always enjoyed a good reputation. The dance gradually emerged in the town after the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911) and is rooted in the fertile soil of Huangge. The Kylin culture has been fully integrated into the customs of local people.

Over the past 100 years, the Huangge Kylin Dance has been strengthened by the times, and has become more and more dazzling and prosperous. With the government's guidance and support, the public enthusiastically participate in the cultural event today. The number of the town's Kylin teams has grown to eleven, including a women team, ateenager team and acampus team. At the opening ceremony, golden Kylins danced and drums sounded loudly. The Kylin parade delighted spectators with the charm of traditional culture.

The evening variety show based on the elements of the water town, has colorful and varied activities such as songs, Kylin dance, comic skits, elocnte, fashion shows, and dragon lion dances. The performers are mostly from the folk-art team in Nansha.

The event comes from the people and eventually serves them.The Guangzhou Water Town Cultural Festival demonstrates the prosperity and development of Nansha's art and greatly enhances the cultural influence of Nansha Water Village. It creates a good social atmosphere for the development and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
