Located in the reclamation district in the estuary of the Pearl River, Wanqingsha Town in Xinken District is gifted with rich and thick mud layers, abundant water resources, clean surroundings and suitable climate, all completely fit for the plantation of lotus root. Lotus root planting in the district dates back hundreds of years, with the current plantation area being as many as 15,000 mu (a Chinese unit of area, approximately equal to 0.07 hectares). Xinken lotus root has been certified as a national green food as well as approved by experts for national geographical protection. It is now in demand all over the world.
