In order to protect and develop the valuable forest resources in Huangshanlu region, the government of Nansha District approved the establishment of Huangshanlu Forest Park on April 12, 2007. On Jan 1, 2008, the park's first-phase project was completed, after which it was open to the tourists.
Huangshanlu Forest Park is located in the center of Nansha, covering an area of approximately 1,200 hectares. Its main peak is 295 meters above sea level, the highest peak in southern Guangzhou and the most optimal place to get a bird's-eye view of the Pearl River estuary in Guangzhou. Taking the Nansha Port Expressway, Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, Humen Expressway, and Metro Line 4, residents from Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai can reach the park within an hour.
There are 460 species of vascular plants in the park, including 434 species of wild plants and the aquilaria sinensis - national secondary protected plant, 41 species of birds, of which the glede, falco peregrinus and falco tinnunculus are national secondary protected animals. It also includes eight types of amphibians, and 14 species of reptiles.
The park has successively built several theme parks such as the Peach Blossom Valley, Azalea Garden, Kapok Garden, Camellia Garden, Jiaoling Tree Garden, and Cherry Garden. Among them, the cherry garden can often attract a large number of tourists every year from February to March when the cherry blossoms.
