A promotion conference for the amomum industry was held in Chikeng town, Guangning county on Aug 31. The event highlighted how Guangning amomum fruit, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, is entering global medicine supply chains through a Nansha-based trading platform.
The herb is known for its high content of bornyl acetate, an active compound that surpasses the standard stipulated by the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. Chikeng amomum fruit has earned certification from the Hong Kong Certification Center, covering raw material traceability, pesticide residue testing and processing standards — a credential recognized in the medical markets of both Hong Kong and Macao.

All products listed on the Shouchuang Traditional Chinese Medicine Trading Platform, launched in Nansha and Hong Kong on Apr 9, must pass a quality system developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Center. More than 300 member companies and over 50 medicinal materials are now registered.
The certification has brought stable demand to local growers. An annual order for 30 metric tons of amomum fruit, valued at about $562,500, was signed in July. Chikeng has about 1,867 hectares of amomum fruit, with more than 667 hectares under standardized cultivation.
Nansha connects mainland production with Hong Kong's testing and trade capabilities, ensuring the herb meets pharmaceutical requirements before reaching international buyers.
