A public welfare gardening fair on Aug 29 marked the launch of the first flower club in Guangzhou's Nansha district at the Nansha Rose Garden, a community space transformed from an idle roadside plot along Fenghuang Avenue.

The garden was developed by the Guangzhou Nansha District Forestry and Landscape Construction and Development Center, in partnership with a local enterprise, under a temporary use mechanism for reserved land. Today, the site offers a blend of rose displays, leisure areas and social spaces — bringing together residents, gardening enthusiasts and local businesses in a shared urban oasis.

A lively calendar of regular activities is already taking shape, including gardening workshops, plant swaps, floral craft sessions and light markets, along with flower arrangement experiences. "We screen open-air movies in the evenings so that residents can enjoy a film and the breeze during a walk," said Ruirui, promotion ambassador of the garden. A rose-themed installation modeled after a subway train has also drawn attention online.

The site includes a sunshine flower house and a bookstore cafe, offering plant displays and coffee. The garden is open all day, and visitors are reminded not to pick flowers. The flower club will pool grassroots gardening enthusiasm by hosting salons and study tours, with plant rescue consultations, intangible cultural heritage flower arrangement and plant exchanges to be introduced soon, adding a soft yet vivid green touch to the 15-minute living circle.
